Breakfast at the mission.
Los Angeles Ca
This is to discuss what happened
the months of June 2014 to August 2014. Over this time a student from Southern
Utah University went to the Union Rescue mission located on skid row in down
town Los Angeles. While at the mission this student served breakfast to the
homeless of Los Angeles at the same time she was receiving school credit.
People who enter the mission are
given food and sometimes even a bed to stay in. During the day there is a recreational
room for both men and women separately that they can charge their phones in or
sit and watch TV. The mission serves 4 different groups 3 times a day.
Volunteers work alongside residence of the mission. Very often the volunteers
and residences know each other very well and create an interesting repour. Volunteers
and residence get a chance to talk during a tiny break between groups of people
to serve when they can talk. Their conversations vary day to day.
The student was from Southern Utah
University and was here to complete her EDGE project. This is something that
her university requires of all its students in order for them to graduate. The
EDGE program is designed to give students at SUU an advantage that other
students.
